The Yobe state Governor, Ibrahim Gaidam, has faulted the claim that the Nigerian Army rescued some of the girls of the Government Girls Science Technical College (GGSTC), Dapchi, Yobe state who were abducted by Boko Haram terrorists on Monday, Vanguard reports.The Governor who visited Dapchi town today, however, said, contrary to the claim, that no girl has been rescued yet.The Boko Haram terrorists had attacked the girls’ college on Monday and abducted many of the girls. While 48 of them were said to have been rescued by the army, another 111 of them were reportedly still missing after the attack.A statement signed by Abdullahi Bego, the Director-General, Press Affairs to Governor Ibrahim Gaidam, on Wednesday, claimed that some of the girls were rescued and were then in the custody of the Nigerian Army.According to the statement, “The Yobe State Government hereby informs the public that some of the girls at Government Girls Science Technical College (GGSTC) whose school was attacked by Boko Haram terrorists last Monday have been rescued by gallant officers and men of the Nigerian Army from the terrorists who abducted them.“The rescued girls are now in the custody of the Nigerian Army. We will provide more details about their number and condition in due course.“His Excellency, Governor Ibrahim Gaidam, who is very grateful for the gallantry and hard work of the officers and men of the Nigerian Army involved in the operation, is monitoring the situation closely and will make a statement in due course” the statement said.However, after visiting Dapchi community on Thursday, Governor Gaidam faulted the claim that the Nigerian Army rescued some of the girls. He said, In fact, that none of the abducted girls has been rescued.A Dapchi resident, Abdul Dapchi, whose two sisters were among the abducted girls, lamented to newsmen that the community became infuriated at Governor Gaidam after his confession that no girl was actually recued.He said, “We were all angry. How could they have deceived us all along?” The Governor is said to have pleaded with the affected family members and the people of the community to keep praying to God for the release of their daughters.
Armed men suspected to be cult members have hacked to death an official of the Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps (LNSC). It was learnt that the victim, Mr. Moshood Bolaji, was returning from work about 9:30p.m. on Wednesday when he decided to watch the football match between Manchester United and Sevilla at Umunede Bar, Mallam Isah Close, Aguda, Surulere.The deceased, said to be a fan of Manchester United, was in the bar when a fight broke out between cultists and a man. The late Bolaji was said to have stood up from where he was sitting to persuade both parties, when one of the cultists slapped him for daring to intervene in what was not his business. A police source said before the deceased knew what was happening, the cult members had pounced on him and stabbed him in the neck. He was rushed to the hospital but died on the way.The source added that after the attack, the viewing centre was immediately deserted but the matter was reported at Bode Thomas Police Station.Meanwhile, the state Commissioner of Police, Imohimi Edgal, who paid a condolence visit to the victim’s office and family yesterday, ordered the Anti-Kidnapping and Special Anti-Robbery Squad units to fish out Bolaji’s killers. In his message to the bereaved family, Edgal said the command shared in their grief. The commissioner also assured them that the command would leave no stone unturned to unravel Bolaji’s killers
